“I work at Alewijnse as Team Leader Payroll. That means that I’m ultimately responsible for processing the salaries of all the employees at the Dutch Alewijnse companies. I’m also responsible for all the projects we have in our department, such as implementation of the Alewijnse Working Conditions Manual.
I started working straight after I left retail school, but I realised that it wasn’t what I wanted. Then, indirectly, I got a job in the Payroll department and I started studying again for my certificates in Payroll Administration, Professional Training in Payroll Services and International Work Mobilisation. And I also attended lots of seminars, of course, because my specialist field is changing all the time. I’ve been Team Leader Payroll at Alewijnse since 1 September 2010.
I work at the Holding in Nijmegen. Our Payroll Administration department shares an office with Personnel Management. That’s handy, because our work overlaps in many ways. I always start my day by checking my email and my agenda. Then I try to get through my to-do list, but other jobs pop up in the meantime. Luckily my work allows me enough time to deal with them.
All of my colleagues are my customers, of course, and they know they can always come to me if they have any questions. I’m also in close contact with the rest of the Human Resource Management department (HRM), as well as with our pension fund manager, the tax authorities, the Employee Insurance Agency (UWV) and all kinds of other organisations. I really enjoy what I do and always go to work with a smile on my face. I also like the variety: no two days are the same. Alewijnse is a socially-minded and committed employer.”
